Recommended Books

These are books that people who filled out my questionnaire recommend as their favorite "mommy" books. When they added comments I have included those. Feel free to add books as well as your review of any of the books listed.

On Becoming Baby Wise by Ezzo and Bucknam.  This book was the most frequently mentioned in my surveys.  It seems that it is the popular theory.

My all time favorite book to give mothers a boost and to make them realize how wonderful it is to be a mother is “Being the Mom,” by Emily Watts. This book makes you laugh at all of the quirks about being a mom and makes you appreciate how special it is at the same time. I highly recommend it to any mother.

The Sleep Book for Tired Parents by Rebecca Huntley. This book had great insights for me as a first time mom on what to expect from my baby and how to help create good sleeping patterns. I found the information to be easy reading with ideas for many different family views on sleeping arrangements.

Getting Organized by Robyn Freedman Spizman. This is a great little book of ideas on how to be more organized in your day-to-day living. Take what works for you and forget about the rest.

Christlike Parenting by Dr Latham I am just in the process of reading this one, but so far I think it is a good book.

The Time Bind by Arlie Russell Hochschild (It’s a great book I read during my studies at BYU in Family Science. It takes into account the first shift (being a mom) the second shift (your actual job if you are not a fulltime homemaker) and the third shift (the emotional aspect of it all).

The 5 Languages of Love for Children by Gary D. Chapman. Gary has also written a book on the languages for couples (which I think was his first) His ideas are excellent and practical and I feel they have enriched my marriage and any relationship I have for that matter.

Dr. Laura’s "The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands"

“Protecting the Gift” is a great book about listening to your intuition when it comes to taking care of your family.

A Joyful Mother of Children by Linda Eyre

Managing Transitions by, William Bridges. (A National Bestseller.)

Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child is a great book that talks about how important sleep is to children. The Dr. who wrote the book talks about how most “difficult” children are merely just tired. Children with more sleep, act better.

“Parenting with Love and Logic” has been a great resource for us. It is a good thing to read as a couple to continue to become one as parents and recognize how you can raise great children.

I read a book called Siblings Without Rivalry by Adelw Faber and Elaine Mazlish that I would recommend to anyone with more than one child.

James Dobson “Sibling Rivalry”

From High Hills to Bunny Slippers is a great book for women who are transitioning from a serious, enjoyable, or extended career to motherhood.

I see the rest of the appendix as being "workbook" style. Following are a few things that I would like to include in conjunction with some of the chapters. Please add your suggestions.

Income Statement and balance sheet

Community Involvement Ideas Checklist

Things you can do with a baby to get out of the house list

Shopping/Coupon websites

Possibly a list of random inspirational quotes.
